在學習語言過程中，區分易混淆詞是關鍵。either與neither作為使用頻繁的詞，常引起混淆。它們不僅作為限定詞、代詞、連詞和副詞，用途廣泛。下文將深入解析它們在不同場景中的使用。
（1）限定詞
作為限定詞，either表示「（兩者中）每個」，neither則表示「兩者皆非」。舉例，You may borrow either book意為「你可以借兩本書中的任何一本」，而You may borrow neither book則意味著「兩本書你都借不了」。
（2）代詞
在代詞用法上，either指向「（兩者中的）任一個」，而neither則表示「兩者都不」。如，(a)中有茶或咖啡，你可任選一種；(b)中詢問兩人誰能借五英鎊。
(a) It was a game in which neither team deserved to win表示「那場比賽兩個隊都不該贏」；(b) Neither of them can cook則意為「他們倆都不會烹飪」。
（3）連詞
作為連詞，either強調「或者……或者……」，在either…or…搭配中使用。而neither用於「既不……也不……」的neither…nor…結構。
(a) I will eat either chicken or fish tonight意為「我今晚吃魚肉或者雞肉」；(b) I will eat neither chicken nor fish tonight則表示「我今晚既不吃魚肉，也不吃雞肉」。不可寫為neither…or…，應為neither…nor…或not…or…。
（4）副詞
在副詞形式下，either用於否定句表示「也（不），亦（不）」。例如，He did not even say anything to her, and she did not speak to him either。
neither作為副詞主要用在neither does / can / will etc somebody結構中，表示「我也不……」。如，Tom didn't believe a word she said, and neither did the police。
值得注意的是，在美式英語中，me neither與me either有時可互換使用，表示「我也不……」。例如，「I don't feel like going out this evening.」 「Me neither.」 此時Me neither可以替換為Me either。
